Frequently asked questions

My session dropped. Is the work on the server lost? If the session runs under tmux, no. The programs keep running on the server, and VeeTerm reattaches to the same tmux session when you return. Without tmux, a dropped connection ends the shell, and VeeTerm offers a new one ("Reconnect").

What do I need on the server? A normal OpenSSH server. For sessions that survive, install tmux on the server and turn tmux on in the host settings.

Does the AI assistant run commands? No. The AI assistant is off by default and only explains. It reads the terminal output you share and answers; it never runs a command. Copy what you need.

Which AI providers can I use? You bring your own API key: OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Before VeeTerm sends anything to a provider for the first time, it asks for your consent and names that provider.

Where are my passwords and keys stored? In the iOS Keychain on your device. They never reach us; we have no server.

How does iCloud sync work? It is off by default. When you turn it on, your hosts sync through your own iCloud account. Sync only adds and updates hosts; it never deletes one.

Can I use a hardware keyboard? Yes. VeeTerm supports hardware keyboards on iPhone and iPad, plus an on-screen key bar for Esc, Ctrl, Tab and the arrow keys.
